About the artwork: An homage to the Mexican shaman Maria Sabina – the healer lived in the mountains of Oaxaca and dedicated her life to helping people through sacred mushroom ceremonies. Maria Sabina used magic mushrooms to cure and to open the gates between the human and the divine. She tenderly called them ‘niños’, her children. Her work came to the attention of foreign researchers, which subsequently led to a rise in popularity of magic mushrooms among Westerners. Sadly, they did not always pay due respect to the sacred rituals and medicine. During my nine months in Mexico, I was lucky enough to visit the region where she lived and it was one of my favorite places. I hold Mexican people and their traditions in high respect and I hope this artwork breathes some of the ancestral wisdom that is still so present in this vibrant country. May Maria Sabina and her plant medicine, grown from the earth, bring lots of magic to your life!
