Title: ‘Bicycle Day’, Illustration Art by Anna Heimkreiter (2021)
From the series: ‘States of Consciousness’, a collection of 7 artworks on plant medicine, psychedelics and the expansion of human consciousness
About the artwork: The story behind this psychedelic artwork must be one of my favorites, always making me chuckle. LSD was – accidentally – discovered by the Swiss chemist Albert Hoffman. To test the substance, he took what he considered a small dose – the poor man did not know what he was getting himself into.
As he rode home on his bike, accompanied by his assistant, the highly potent drug fully unfolded its mind-altering effects. A literal bike trip! Not prepared for the experience, he shifted through states of physical discomfort and mental horror. Only later on, he got to enjoy the kaleidoscope of visions and the experience of another reality.
A new psychedelic was born – and ever since, this day is commemorated as Bicycle Day.
Fun fact: The warped black and white pattern is inspired by one of my personal LSD experiences, turning a tiled floor into a wavy wonderland. I highly recommend you order this artwork in the larger size so you can fully discover all the magical little details floating through this colorful universe!
